When Should I renew my cambelt?
This is a question we get asked a lot here at MK MOT and there is not standard change time it varies form manufacturer to manufacturer. The recommended interval can be anything from 30,000 miles to 100,000 miles. Also there may be a time frame as wlell for examble 50,000 miles or 5 years whicher comes first.
If you are unsure when your cambelt needs replacing then please give us a call here at MK MOT and we will be able to tell you based on the vehicle make, model, engine number and the model year.
A failed cambelt in most cases will be terminal to many of the engines componants and very often a replacement engine is required. If you are lucky you may get away with a smaller bill but it depends if you like to gamble or not.
Renewing your cambelt early is no problem and we always recommend that if you buy a used car you should as precaustion change the cambelt so you know for sure it has been changed. There are lots of people who will sell a vehicle saying it has had a cambelt done but it has not and has left teh purchaser with a huge bill.
